Strategic Cooperation in Türkiye’s Defence Industry: BEST DEFENCE Support for ULAQ

Developed jointly by ARES Shipyard and Meteksan Defence, Türkiye’s unmanned combat surface vessel ULAQ was recently delivered during the Commissioning, Flag-Raising and First Steel-Cutting Ceremony for Naval Platforms, held at Istanbul Naval Shipyard Command with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

ULAQ has now entered service equipped with the 12.7 mm Naval-Type Remotely Controlled Weapon System developed by BEST DEFENCE.

Proven Land-Platform Experience Transferred to the Maritime Domain

Türkiye’s growth vision in the defence industry is moving beyond conventional public-private cooperation and entering a new phase shaped by strategic partnerships.

Building on the operational experience gained through land-platform applications, BEST DEFENCE is extending its capabilities into the maritime domain and contributing to Turkish naval platforms with its naval-type remotely controlled weapon system solutions.

High Precision and Flexible Configuration

At the core of the system is the SAR 127 MT weapon, specifically adapted for maritime operating conditions. The same system can also be configured with 7.62 mm weapons.

Its over-cradle firing and charging mechanism enables rapid adaptation to different weapon configurations.

The system provides an ammunition capacity of 500 rounds for 12.7 mm weapons and 1,000 rounds for 7.62 mm weapons. Thanks to its compact architecture, it can be readily integrated into both newly built platforms and existing naval vessels.

AI-Assisted Target Detection and Fire Control

BEST DEFENCE’s naval-type remotely controlled weapon systems stand out with their artificial intelligence-assisted target detection, identification and tracking capabilities.

Maritime, land and aerial targets can be engaged with high precision following operator authorisation.

The system delivers stabilised imagery and data by compensating for vessel-induced vibration and motion. This enables a high degree of accuracy even when both the platform and the target are moving simultaneously.

Its open architecture allows integration with different combat management systems, while the overall configuration can be tailored to specific user requirements.

An Indigenous and Sustainable Contribution to the Blue Homeland

Through its strong research and development infrastructure, operational experience and strategic partnerships, BEST DEFENCE is transferring the success it has achieved on land platforms into the maritime environment.

As the company continues to expand its family of naval-type remotely controlled weapon systems, it remains committed to supporting Türkiye’s Blue Homeland vision with indigenous, intelligent and integrated solutions.
